The high energy crowd could not believe the quality of tunes played, the night was awesome. It was all about the music and dancing the night away with your friends. Since then Coastal Beats has promoted and developed regular events, other DJ's & MC's who have spent time on the decks as special guests have included; The Aston Shuffle, Kid Kenobi & MC Shureshock @ 2005's Outdoor Music Fest, MC Losty, Suae, DJ Archie, Two Faced DJs, Scott Richardson, Cloudze, Blaise Lofts, Ash Dale, Matt Joyce, Jem Quinn, Disco, Tom Pye, Chris Mees, Scream, Silva, Woodrow, Linton & Jimmy Z who declared Coastal Beats as being one of Australia's best underage events!

HISTORICAL JOURNEY

In July 2004 the inaugural Coastal Beats event was held on Friday 23rd, Ordy along with his friends and fellow DJ's, Woodrow and Chris Mees performed on stage @ the Ulladulla Civic Centre playing to a near capacity audience. The high energy crowd could not believe the quality of tunes the guys played, the night was awesome. It was all about the music and all about the dancing, the night was a huge success. Ordy often attended events in Sydney and looked forward to developing more regular events in his home town.

Since then Coastal Beats has promoted and developed regular events, the selling of glow merchandise has also became quite popular. By the 3rd Coastal event Peter Oates brought his lightshow of lasers, strobes and other visuals to life, making the events look more professional and upmarket. On that night MC Jiffy took control of the mic and declared to the sell-out crowd, that the Coastal Beats team was the best on the South Coast. Since then other cutting edge DJ's have spent time on the decks as special guests, they've included Scream, Linton and Scott Richardson. Ordy tries to mix up the events, with only 4 hours playing time, it is necessary to plan and vary the acts, so the crowd can gain a wider variety of music they can dance to. The events also inspired new DJ's to learn the craft and names like Tom Pye, Ash Dale, Josh Circosta, are just a few local up and coming DJ to haven taken the stage to perform successfully to the regular attending dance crowd . Each event has a vast array of new sounds in all kinds of dance genre from fresh house music to better known hip-hop, techno and trance music, breaks are popular with the dance crowd as is the mix of happy hard and drum 'n' bass sounds, that Ordy loves to play to the young dance enthusiasts. The main goal of the events is to ensure the dance crowd has something to dance to with their friends all night long. The events have become the highlight of the Underage event calendar, the youth of the district eagerly await the news release via the website of the next date and look forward to seeing the announcement via the pole posters of who will be appearing on stage as DJ. The events have been held in other coastal towns such as Sussex Inlet, Batemans Bay, Moruya, Narooma and Bega. The added transport and accommodation costs has meant that most events are held in Ulladulla, it has a quality venue large enough to host the events. At the request from youth from neighbouring districts prepared to pay a little extra we have been able to provide a bus to and from the events.

Coastal Beats finished off their 2nd successful year of Underage events with its Inaugural All Age Outdoor Music Festival held on Saturday December 3rd, 2005, it starred Australia's #1 DJ Kid Kenobi & partner in crime MC Shureshock whose talents have taken them overseas to England, Europe and America. Such a top class act to be drawn to the South Coast was unbelievable and those who witnessed the event could not believe such a quality act was playing in Ulladulla. DJ Ordy took centre stage and in appreciation to the hundreds of supporters he put together an outstanding set of his personal favourite genre, drum'n'bass mixes that worked a treat to get the crowd worked up before the main acts came on stage. Jimmy Z made the trip from Sydney and played the music that has recently won him the top spot on several music charts with his newly released CD 4Play Volume 4. If you missed his set then head down to Malibu Music, his CD's are a must for the dance enthusiasts. Scott Richardson put together a top class set that had the crowd transfixed on his unique style. Chris Mees and Scream, the awesome duo, put together a great set also that was applauded by the late afternoon crowd. The younger members welcomed Tom Pye to the stage at his first outdoor event and he didn't dissapoint them with his lively set. Matt Joyce had the task of being first DJ on stage and took great pleasure in cranking up the sound sytem to the max to let everyone know the event had started and one only had to follow the beat to find where it was at. Due to the small crowd a number of DJ's were not able to take up their position behind the decks on the second stage. Perhaps they needed to get the word out a bit more, like Hicksy from Sydney, who was invited back to Coastal's first event of 2006. The local support was pretty dismal, but luckily there was a great contingent of supporters from Canberra & Sydney who made the trip to Ulladulla and Ordy appreciated their support. Jake Trindorfer put together an unbelievable Break Dancing performance and he and others showed some unbelievable athleticism in their manoevers on stage. There was a great mix of ages who attended and all found the event great value, with a world class DJ Kid Kenobi & MC Shureshock, top Sydney DJ's Jimmy Z & Scott Richardson and six other up & coming DJ's as support artists. Unlimited free rides on the mechanical surfboard & jumping castle were popular with all ages . At the conclusion of the festival all applauded DJ Ordy, who put together a fantastic event that was equal to any of the larger events held in Sydney. Check out the gallery, to see what we mean, better still ask around and here first hand what you missed out on. It was an awesome event and one that will be the talk of town for a long time to come.

It is a big feat to book an artist and Coastal Beats has managed to excel as each year has passed to increase the talent to take centre stage, with many top name artists performing. Kid Kenobi, MC Shureshock, The Aston Shuffle, Jimmy Z, Archie, MC Losty, Suae, Two Faced DJ's to name a few. To lock in big name acts we have book many months in advance, unfortunately as the events get closer it has arisen that some of the artists booked popularity has increased tenfold. Unfortunately this has worked as a disadvantage to us being so far down the coast, with many hours spent in travel time, this has on two occassions resulted in artists being booked at 2 events on the same date, normally an achievable schedule, but not if there is more than six hours travelling time to take into account. This has happened twice with two artists we booked months ahead choosing to pull out on the day of our event, with very little notice given to the organisers, we are telling you this, because this has happened on two occasions and both times those attending have felt very let-down. Coastal Beats apologises for this but would like to remind those attending that the ticket they purchase for the upcoming event has been funded from past events or by Coastal Beats organisers. So when an artist pulls out the cost of the event does not affect the ticket price. So when this happens Coastal Beats along with regular attendees are the ones that have been ripped off, not the people who buy the tickets for that specific event. We acknowledge that some would not have bought a ticket to go if it wasn't for the advertised artist, but they need to realise it is those who regularly support and attend the events that have actually paid for that artist to be there, having a big name act is a bonus and if the cost of booking the artist was incorporated in the cost of the ticket, the events would not be affordable to the youth which means they would have to travel to Sydney and pay anywhere up to $100. The artists who have pulled out are the ones who should step up and apologise for not attending, so please do not blame the organisers who have maintained the price of the events to be as affordable as possible, with guest appearances from numerous DJ's taking Centre Stage whenever possible. Remember good attendance numbers means better artists, if numbers are small then future events may be postponed to a later date.

Coastal Beats would like to take this opportunity to thank the youth of the South Coast for their support and hope that they will be able to continue for many years to come to provide quality dance events for the Underage to mmet up with their friends and have a great night out.
